3/10/12 Great Western franchise competition paused

The Department for Transport announced on 3 October 2012 that the competition to run trains on the West Coast Main Line had been cancelled “following the discovery of significant technical flaws in the way the franchise process was conducted”.  Two independent reviews have been set up to find out what happened.

As a consequence all outstanding franchise competitions, including the Great Western franchise under which our local trains operate, have been paused pending the outcome of these reviews.  The new franchise was due to start in July 2013 and we do not yet know what the new date will be.  Further information will be posted on this site as it becomes available.

The full press release and other information is available on the Department for Transport website.
