Summer timetable starts 14 May 2012

The summer railway timetable will come into effect on Monday 14 May 2012. A copy of the timetable for the Avocet Line can be found here. There are very few changes from the current timetable, although some services from Exeter St Davids on a Sunday have been retimed to provide better connections with services from Birmingham and the North of England.

The timetable for the service between Exmouth, Exeter and Barnstaple (including Sunday services to Okehampton from 3 June) can be found here.

Landslip near St James Park

Those of you who have travelled on the line in the last few days may have noticed a landslip near St James Park Station. Before and after pictures can be found here. Tthe slippage appears to be at the bottom of the bank, as there are visable bare patches near the top in the ‘before’ picture. Trains are currently subject to a 5 mph speed restriction and someone from Network Rail is in attendance monitoring the site.

Reforming our Railways and related consultations

On 8th March 2012 the Department for Transport published a Command Paper setting out the Government’s vision for the railways, together with policies aimed at achieving that vision. Please click here for a link to the document.

At the same time the Department has published a consultation paper on rail decentralisation: devolving decision-making on passenger rail services in England.

The Department has also published a consultation paper seeking evidence to inform the Government’s fares and ticketing review.

ALRUG responds to franchise consultation

Following the well attended and supportive open meeting on Monday 13 February 2012, ALRUG has finalised the response to the Department for Transport consultation on the new Great Western Franchise. This response will be circulated to other major stakeholders.

The Group has also issued a press notice to publicise the response.

Illustrated talk on the Weston Clevedon and Portishead Light Railway

An illustrated talk will be given on Wednesday 7 March by Rail Historian (and one of the first ‘Revitalised’ L&B Rly Passenger Guards) Mr Chris Redwood on the Weston Clevedon and Portishead Light Railway at the Rising Sun Hotel Umberleigh. (approx. 4 mins. walk from the nearby Railway Station). Meet at the Rising Sun from 1800 for the show to start at about 1845.

Entry is Free.
